The 7 ‘Dhoni Moments’ that we will fondly remember!
MS Dhoni, is a name that will be carved in the Indian Cricketing history —for his intelligence, leadership, understanding of the game and the ability to perform under pressure, are truly immense.
He’s the only Captain to win all the limited overs World Championship trophies including, T20 WC 2007, CWC 2011 & CT 2013 and the first Captain who took India to the number 1 rank in the World Test Rankings during 2009.
But beyond all his international records and success in Cricket, he is someone who will be remembered for the magic he creates on the Cricketing ground (and outside). Out of the many memorable moments of MS Dhoni with Indian Cricket — on this day, presenting the top 7 of them! #HappyBirthdayDhoni
#7 12 runs off 2 balls to win!
‘The last ball six’ is always a fascinating moment for a Cricketing fan. Before the Dhoni era, there are actually a few matches in which a batsman was able to pull this streak (remember Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s six against Sri Lanka).
In the IPL match against KXIP representing the Rising Pune Super Giants(RPS), Dhoni had to score 22 runs off the last 5 deliveries — ended up hitting back to back sixes when the situation demanded on the final two balls! The match truly showed the ability of MS Dhoni as the world-class finisher and the match was an absolute thriller till the final moment.
#6 The No-look throw to get the wicket of Ross Taylor!
Dhoni’s wicket keeping skills are insane! He’s in fact the first international player to effect more than 150 stumpings behind the stumps and his judgement and precision are incomparable.
Back in 2016, MS Dhoni did something known as the ‘no-look throw’ to get the wicket of Ross Taylor — it was a sensational moment for wicket keeping and became a trend setter!
#5 “Come here! Let’s have some fun.”
MS Dhoni never fails to hit ‘sixes’ outside the Cricketing ground, too!
Asked about his retirement after the T20 World Cup 2016, MS Dhoni produces a ‘hilarious’ moment that’s worth a billion! He poses a series of questions at the Australian reporter, eventually making him admit the fact that he’s fit to play till the 2019 World Cup.
#4 Clean bowled — the first international wicket!
All of us would be familiar with the batting and the wicket keeping skills of MSD — this was a rare moment when he took off the gloves to bowl an over against West Indies at the 2009 Champions Trophy!
After going for back-to-back boundaries in the first two balls — Dhoni pulled off a magic on the 4th ball, clearing the stumps of Travis Dowlin, picking up his first ever international wicket.
#3 Dhoni Review System!
When DRS (Decision Review System) was introduced in Cricket during 2008, India was one of the countries not very supportive of using the Technology. In fact even till the early 2010s, BCCI and ICC had difference of opinion in using the system.
Overruling all the criticisms, DRS became a part of the Cricketing fraternity. Guess who made the best use of the system? With the precision and the quality of the reviews from the Indian Captain, people started calling the ‘DRS’ as the ‘Dhoni Review System’.
#2 Off the gloves — the MS Dhoni sprint!
2 runs to win off 3 balls — the equation sounded super simple for the Bangladesh team to register their win against India in the T20 WC 2016!
Then the things started moving towards the Indian way — with two excellent back-to-back catches by the Indian fielders, removing the in-form Bangladesh batsmen!
With 2 runs required to win and 1 run to tie of the last delivery — Dhoni took off his gloves anticipating a close run-out encounter and what he anticipated exactly happened!
#1 “Dhoni.. Finishes off in style.. A magnificent strike into the crowd. India lifts world cup after the 28 years.”
Undoubtedly, the top ‘Dhoni moment’ is the shot that all the Indian Cricket fans will never get bored of watching. The moment when India lifted the 2011 World Cup is an incredible one and the best of all!
